Indigenous Grillo $11.00
Overlooked for centuries as an ingredient in traditional Marsala, Grillo is now finding big fans done as a dry white. Three months on the lees adds texture, no oak to get in the way, plenty of vibrant acidity and lovely stonefruit and citrus flavors. The Pinot Grigio drinkers new favorite at a better price too!
Planeta Rosso $14.00
The Planeta family has been making wine since the 1600's on the slopes of Mt Etna on Sicily. La Segreta is the forest surrounding the vineyards. An easy drinking introduction to Nero d'Avola, blended also with some more recognizable grapes. Smooth but with some delicious spice character.
Soft nose of blackberry, tobacco, spice and volcanic earth with a little hint of Kirsch as well. Explosive cherry flavor with a nice structure to finish. Really fun. I know there are cheaper ones out there, but this is the liveliest, and a delicious expression of the grape. Just enhanced with a few months in 2nd pass French oak.
