Tasting

We always love welcoming winemakers and those who represent good wine to Bitto Bistro. Thursday, October 17th from 6-8pm we welcome Cristina Della Gaspera representing Tomasella from the Friuli region in Italy. She will be bringing with her a delicious line up of their wines. You will have an opportunity to purchase a flight (or multiple), and chat with her about all things Tomasella and wine! As always we will have live music on Thursday, so come over and enjoy a glass with us!

The Tenute Tomasella winery is located near the village of Portobuffolè in northeast Italy. In the lands of the noblewoman Gaia da Camino, the daughter of the “good Gherardo” mentioned in Dante’s Inferno.

It has 30 hectares of vines in the DOC Friuli Grave area and the DOC Piave area, with 7 hectares in Friuli and 23 in Veneto. The winery is renowned for respecting traditions and the environment, and for its production of intriguing new wines that are unlike the typical wines of the area. The winery makes a wonderful variety of wines that we've sold in the Wine Cellar and at Bitto for most of our time here.

The first years of production, saw an interesting line of Sparkling wines made according to the long Charmat method (remember the Ose?) More recently, a line of still wines from Friuli Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Friulano. has been added. The winery’s principles remain the same and focus on getting the best from its vineyards in Friuli and Veneto.

Orchard Wine Cellar Movers and Shakers This Week

  • Tintero Moscato

    #1 Tintero Moscato

Sori Gramella refers to the one of the only single vineyard Moscatos, and Marco is the only producer to bottle this striking limestone amphitheater commercially. Once the 30 year old vines give up their bounty, and the grapes are harvested and pressed, they are kept in stainless steel at a low temperature to prevent fermentation until an order is received in order to provide the freshest wine possible.
    (Holding the #1 spot)

  • Bonavita Red

    #2 Bonavita Red

Made from four grapes harvested later than usual to achieve a greater ripeness and smoothness. A deep and inky wine, with ripe plum and blackcurrant aromas. Nice ripe fig and cherry with chocolate and licorice flavors. Just enough oak to give it some backbone. (behind by 24 bottles)

  • Sweet Sunset Chocolate Merlot

    #3 Sweet Sunset Chocolate Merlot

First lets say that this is Not ChocoVine. This wine is actually made with eighty five percent Merlot and than has natural chocolate cream added to the mix. This is the wine for anyone looking for sweet red or the chocolate lover at home. Great gift for the holidays. (behind by 9 bottles)

  • Donausonne Blaufrankish

    #4 Donausonne Blaufrankish

If you can't pronounce this grape don't worry! Neither can anyone else. Sweet berry and red fruits in this light, pretty wine from Hungary. Rich flavor with no bitter tannins. A great sweeter red that is a big seller here. Many folks feel its the only red wine for them! (behind by 9 bottles)
