Maley Cider - $24.00

Maley Cider(No rating yet)

Abandoned alpine orchards planted upwards of 4000 feet, half of them in the French Alps surrounding Chamonix and half in nearly-deserted Alpine towns in the Italian Valle díAosta. No chemicals. Some of these sleepy apple trees havenít been picked in decades. The only Italian cider made with heirloom apple varieties. It's just the best, really.

Produttore / Producer:
The name “Maley” comes from both an old Valdostano name for apple (Malus in Latin) and one of the pre-20th century names for Mont Blanc (Mont Malais). Maley is Gianluca’s revival of an old Valdostano tradition of cider-making that Mussolini quashed in the 1930s as part of his effort to eliminate anything not sufficiently “Italian” — cider being in the fascists’ view a French affectation. Maley is the only cider producer in Italy making artisanal cider with heirloom apples. (There are a few siderie in Alto Adige, but they are not using interesting apples and the results are ho-hum).

A Tavola… / At the Table…
Touch of funk, touch of fruit. A fun little Alpine picnic cider. Goes down easy by itself after climbing 4000 feet or with slices of sweet Prosciutto or lots of fresh cheeses.

Structured and executed like a world class ballerina doing flamenco. Sells out every year for good reason. Lighter than Provence, a different planet than White Zin. The only hard part is only opening one bottle at a time. (behind by 1 bottles)

  • Volunteer Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

#4 Volunteer Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

The Volunteer is a medium density Cabernet, with hints of cherry, cranberry, toasted vanilla and subtle tannins. Juicy with a little smoke and oak. Named for the wine maker who is a volunteer Fire Fighter in Napa Valley. (behind by 5 bottles)
